Vistor Vasarely, the artist with the greatest influence in op art, The theory of vassarely's art was published in 1955 under the title yellow manifesto in witch he sais that trhe terms painting and sculpting are anachronistic and we should replace them with two or three dimensional plasticity.

Αυτό που ονομάστηκε οπτική ζωγραφική από τη μία πλευρά επικαλύπτεται με τη γλυπτική του φωτός (όσον αφορά το ενδιαφέρον της για τη δημιουργία ψευδαισθήσεων και για τη φυσική και ψυχολογική δράση του χρώματος), όπως επίσης και με τους πειραματισμούς στη χρήση φωτός πάνω στον θεατή. Από την άλλη πλευρά, η οπτική ζωγραφική εισέρχεται στον χώρο της ζωγραφικής χρωματικού πεδίου, καθώς χρησιμοποιεί έντονα και καθαρά χρώματα σε ερεθιστικούς για το ανθρώπινο μάτι συνδυασμούς.
